Content and format
As you might guess, the name Reminisce is a nod to the old-school of performers and DJs. Of course, music is progressing and the new stars are impressive. However, many people are fans of popular performers from the days of their youth. Therefore, it often makes sense to remember them and to listen to incredibly cool cultural products that don’t lose their relevance over time.
The epicentre of the festival’s events is the dance floor. Here, you can take part in a kind of multi-hour training for the most enduring ones. Until and including 2023, the festival’s main venue was Sherdley Park. It hosted 120 DJs and the main arena was designed for 10,000 seats. Of course, it had no chance of avoiding a full house. Only those over the age of 18 are allowed on the dance floor, which means that ID must be taken among other things.
History
It all started in 2014. At that time, it wasn’t completely clear how people would take the initiative, but what happened exceeded all expectations. It was something new, but many later said it was their favourite event of the year. Then 3,000 people gathered in two large arenas. For 12 hours, they brought the heat on St Helens. The audience had fun and danced all the way through, never getting tired. Various genres of music were represented, including the local style of scouse house. You could also hear various instruments, including the piano. The event took place without clashes and aggression, which was noted by the local police and residents of the surrounding areas.
2015 was a year of improvement. After all, there is no limit to perfection, and the best is the enemy of the good. The organisers decided to do something that would make everyone present even more excited. They added two more performance arenas, a fair, additional bars, seating and toilets. International-level DJs and virtuoso performers from Holland, the USA, Italy and Belgium were invited. There were also some British dance music pioneers. Tall Paul & FPI Project blew the roof off the audience with their energy, Klubbheads tore the arena to shreds and Julie McKnight became a festival legend thanks to her live performance. The event took place without excesses again.
The 2016 festival was marked by an even greater expansion and improvement of the music quality. Another large arena, which could accommodate 8,000 people, was added. As a result, the number of visitors has increased. The festival offered more classic club music, which contributed to old-school memories. Additional entertainment was also included. That year, visitors could listen to Black Box, Robin S, Reel 2 Reel and Vengaboys.
2017 was the best year ever. The organisers obtained permission to move the festival to another part of the park. It also increased the number of visitors. Then the list of old-school musicians was replenished again. Just imagine how great it was to listen to Snap!, Technotronic, Tall Paul, Darren Styles, Matt Darey, Judge Jules, Jeremy Healy, Signum, Warp Brothers and many more. Interestingly, it rained for a whole week before the festival, but just before it started, the clouds parted and nothing interfered with the celebration.
2018 also exceeded all expectations. Almost 14,000 ravers gathered at the festival grounds in Liverpool. They went out of their way to make the day of memories even more incredible. Technotronic and The Outhere Brothers appeared for the first time at the Reminisce Festival in that year and not in vain. The highlight was the performance by American singer Sybil at the Reminisce Arena. She flew to Liverpool to sing The love I lost in unison with the audience. The performances by Cascada and Love Inc. are also worth noting.
The 6th festival of club classics took place on September 7, 2019. It gathered more than 140 live music performers and DJs from different countries. Once again, thousands of visitors had a good time and recalled their youth together with the old-school musicians. Among them were D:Ream, Vengaboys, Judge Jules, Ultra Nate, Whigfield, Alex K and many others. They gathered visitors in six large arenas. The main arena presented “screaming piano memories”, while others were filled with anthems, funky, trance, etc.
In the following years, the festival became even better and more interesting. However, it had to be cancelled in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Important information for visitors
Many would like to know the festival schedule and not miss their favourite performer. However, the organisers deliberately don’t disclose this information because they want all visitors to arrive early and stay until the end if possible.
How to get there?
If you are travelling in your own car, please note that there are no parking spaces at the event site, but it is available at the Co-op Distribution Centre off Lea Green Road. In addition, there are bus stops on Marshalls Cross Road. Lea Green train station is a few minutes’ walk away too.
Restrictions
Smoking and vaping are not allowed on the territory of the arena or in the tents. However, visitors can smoke ordinary or electronic cigarettes in the open air. You can’t bring glass with you, so don’t take along perfume, any bottles, mirrors, etc. Aerosols, drones, smoke bombs and fireworks are also prohibited. It is not allowed to wear sports suits and anything that obscures eyes, such as masks. You are also not allowed to bring your own alcohol.
For those with special medical needs
If someone has a medical condition that requires bringing their own food or medication, it is recommended to contact the service staff in the special corridor for people with disabilities. There, the staff will likely issue a special medical bracelet to provide medical assistance as soon as possible if necessary. In some cases, it is advisable to have a prescription or a doctor’s note with you.
Is there a camping site?
Since the festival is a one-day event, tents aren’t used there. You can take a camping chair, but it is worth considering that it slightly slows down the entry process (there will be an additional checking). You will find many sitting places in the open-air park or under a canopy.
What to do if you feel unwell?
If you feel unwell on the day of the festival, please contact the nearest steward. It is necessary to inform them of your symptoms. Then qualified specialists will provide you with appropriate assistance. For such cases, the festival arranges a special zone and an isolation tent.
What if the event is postponed?
In case the festival is rescheduled, all tickets will be valid for the new date. However, the probability of such a situation is small, unless something extraordinary happens.
Is it possible to use an electronic ticket?
Yes, of course. But you need to take care of downloading it to your gadget in advance. If you do it at the last minute and something goes wrong, you won’t be able to enter. Avoid such situations and don’t rely on Wi-Fi at the venue.
